Mediation Experience

I have worked professionally in the mental health field since 1986 and have worked as a Psychologist since 1995, which was the year I completed my Ph.D. degree in Clinical Psychology. My practice has always focused on resolving people's disputes and conflicts. While working as a Psychologist, I simultaneously have been a real estate investor and property manager since 2003. In that role, I successfully handled many of my own real estate disputes between contractors, property managers, and tenants. I have worked in medical centers for 11 years and handled a variety of disputes in those settings that have prevented litigation. I have also conducted corporate managerial mediations with disputing managers who were sabotaging each other's teams, resulting in significantly lost revenues.

My career started in 1986 when I started working in the mental health field. During my professional career, I have worked in a variety of settings where conflict resolution and mediation skills were used regularly, including resolving disputes in these areas: divorce, pre-marital and prenuptial agreements, parent and adolescent, small business, family business, physician, surgeon and patient conflicts, corporate management infighting consultations, work place and employee conflicts, head injury cases vs. insurances, and many real estate disputes.

I have also conducted family mediations and counseling with families from a variety of cultures. I have had the privilege to travel to many different countries and study various cultures, which has taught me how other cultures resolve disputes. This information has been very helpful in a variety of cases.

I have conducted "Probable Cause Hearings" in an inpatient psychiatric facility with administrative law judges, patient's rights advocates, and psychiatric patients. I have been an expert witness and consultant to various legal and mental health cases, and attended depositions. I have consulted with attorneys on various mental health issues and assisted them in understanding and successfully representing their "challenging" clients.

I have handled all kinds of disputes from highly disputing couples, real estate and business disputes, conflicting business partners, to conducting group therapy with opposing gang members in Los Angeles. I bring my Psychologist experience, conflict resolution skills, communication skills, and business experience to the mediation table. In doing so, I think I offer a unique blend of both being able to handle highly emotional clients as well as being able to focus on the business and task at hand, so that parties can resolve their disputes in an effective and efficient manner. I also teach various communication techniques to couples and businesses that can often assist in bringing the mediation process forward in a more positive and effective way. I therefore mediate cases related to my professional experiences which include: divorce, family, real estate, business, work-place, health-care, and cross-cultural disputes, and facilitating forgiveness.

I have completed the necessary trainings to be qualified as both a (General) Mediator and a Divorce Mediator. These mediation trainings meet the criteria for membership in the Mediation Association of Colorado, and are in compliance with the recommended professional trainings from the State of Colorado, Office of Dispute Resolution (Denver, Colorado).
