Counseling Experience

Career Experience:

My interest in Psychology began at age 17 when I took a Psychology class in high school and started seeing my first "clients" as a Peer Counselor in high school.

Professionally, I've been privileged to work in the mental health field since 1986. During my career I have worked in a variety of settings: private practice, medical centers, inpatient psychiatric facilities, residential treatment facilities, nursing homes, a prison, mental health centers, and have worked with businesses and provided various motivational and mental health trainings.

I have conducted thousands of couples and individual therapy sessions and over 500 group therapy sessions. I have conducted over 4,000 psychological evaluations in a hospital setting with medical patients. I've worked with a variety of patients including: those detoxing from drugs and alcohol, suicidal, post-surgical complications, Hep-C, neuropsychological, rehabilitation, chronic wound, psychotic, criminal, domestic violence, amputee, dementia, delirium, and many others.

Education and Training:

Regarding my education and training, I am a Licensed Psychologist. I obtained my doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Clinical Psychology, in 1995. I completed my Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology in 1990, and my B.A. degree in Psychology in 1988.

Interests:

I have had the privilege of traveling to 29 different countries and studied a variety of cultures and their teachings and traditions on "how to live," including learning about how other cultures handle stress, resolve conflicts, develop positive relationships, and resolve loss and grief. This information can be borrowed and made useful in our culture as well.

I'm mostly interested in practical and positive psychology and how people can resolve conflicts, learn to cope and overcome adversity, and develop themselves so that they can live the life that they want and imagine possible.
